The Oscar for “most popular PNG of the week” goes to…

This week end we’ll know who will be the winners of the 2016 Academy Awards. The ceremony is taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on February 26, 2017. There’s a particular reason why I’m mentioning the 89th Academy Awards ceremony: at #7 in this week’s chart of the most downloaded PNGs on we have the image of… the Academy Awards Oscar statuette.

Did you know that there are approximately 50 Oscars awarded each year, all manufactured by R.S. Owens & Company in Chicago, Illinois?

You can find on StickPNG images from some of this year’s Oscars nominees, including the absolutely gorgeous La La Land. I’m still humming “City of Dreams”.

If you’re a die-hard fan of Ryan Gosling and/or Emma Stone, strong contenders for an Academy Award this year, follow these 2 links:

Let’s get back to our weekly chart. Closing this week’s top 8, we have a hand holding a tablet. Smartphones and tablets are obviously a popular topic on StickPNG. Our tech-savvy visitors are always looking for mockups to showcase their app, website or any other creative which fits in a mobile screen.

One step higher than the Oscar statuette, we have the Soundcloud logo. Soundcloud is an immensely popular Berlin-based startup, nevertheless struggling to find a model to prove its sustainability. We hope that they’ll crack the monetisation code in 2017. We’ve come across so many great talents via Soundcloud. It would be a pity to see them go or merge with a less artist-friendly alternative.

Speaking of emerging talents, let me share with you a track from a young Irish singer I’ve recently discovered at the Half Moon in Putney: Megan Collins.

No presence of Donald Trump – neither angry or smiling – in this week’s Top 8 on StickPNG. But at #5 we get the image of an explosion. Let’s hope there’s nothing premonitory in this visual swap.

The ubiquitous Deal With It (Thug Life) Glasses are again featured twice in this week’s Most Downloaded Images: once at #4 and at the very top of the chart, grabbing the first position. We also spot two laureates of last week’s top 8, back for a second serving: a black arrow and the light (London) fog.

Here’s the full top 8. If it was a puzzle, what would be the hidden meaning? Comments herein below are open to suggestions.
